Nick Harvey - Eagle Scout
Nick Harvey has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. A member of BSA Troop 835,he began as a Tiger Cub with Pack 35 back in 2001 as a 1st grader at Cabell Elementary School. He continued advancing to Bear, Wolf and Webelos through middle school and finally joined Troop 835 in the spring of 2006. In 2007, he traveled to Utah and NewMexico where he was able to do whitewater rafting, kayaking and canyoneering. He attended the 100th Boy Scout Anniversary Jamboree at Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia in 2010 after visiting New York and Washington DC. For his Eagle Scout Service Project, Nick wantedto pay tribute to Cabell Elementary school which is where it all began. After pondering several different ideas, he began working with the art teacher to design plans to create some much needed storage space. He was able to secure the entire cost of the projectthrough donations, including money and materials from Home Depot. He then lead a team of fellow scouts, friends and family to build, paint and install a wall of cabinets and shelves, as well as a large mobile cabinet. Through almost twelve years of scouting,he has met many different people, made a lot of friends and experienced quite a few adventures, while traveling around the area and the country. He and his parents are very thankful for everyone that has been a part of his twelve years of scouting.
METSA Rocketry Team
The TARC team went to Washington DC this past weekend to compete at the national level with their rocket. While their success at the national level didn’t match theirsuccess to qualify, the TARC team had an amazing trip. They were able to attend a breakfast hosted by U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen. At the event they met distinguished guests and other competitors and discussed their rocketand future aspirations. Their rocket was definitely the most talked about because they hand made about 90% of it. They were able to tour the Air & Space museum that houses the Space Shuttle Discovery as well as a great deal of other spacecraft and aircraft history. Finally they competed with the other 99 teams and were witness to about 150 rocket launches throughout the event. They were awarded the “Best Dressed” team at the competition as would be evidenced by one of the attached pictures. Please congratulate Dustin Call, Mark Cordova, Jawaad Gadhia and Tripp Illingworth on all their hard work and dedication to this event throughout the year!
