  • U.S. News & World Report awarded Newman Smith its “Silver Medal” for being one of America’s Top High Schools.


     Using 2014 academic indicators, U.S. News & World Report has ranked Newman Smith High School #876 nationally among America’s Top High Schools.

    Additionally, U.S. News & World Report ranked Newman Smith #93 on its top academic school in Texas listing.  In addition, the Washington Post placed Newman Smith on its “America’s Most Challenging High Schools” list.

    Approximately 1.5 million juniors take the PSAT each year.  Rachel is one of  only 8000 students in the nation to earn the recognition  as a National Merit Scholarship Winner!

  • Newman Smith Senior Wins 2013 Samsung Mobile App Academy Grand Prize--
     $20,000 Scholarship
    Jeffrey Hong, 12th grader at Newman Smith High School in Carrollton, TX,  created the Dash'corder app concept to transform a smartphone into a dashboard camera. The app helps keep the community safe by promoting best driving practices, recording events, and calling for help when needed. The app runs as a background program allowing drivers to use hands-free.

For nearly 40-years Newman Smith High School has provided quality instruction to students in the Carrollton-Farmers Branch School District. Our campus vision is simple..."Learning and Achievement." All students will take a curriculum of rigor that includes Advanced Placement and Dual Credit courses. Additionally, learners will excel on state standardized tests, meet standards (3 or above) on AP examinations, score above national norms on SAT/ACT and PSAT. Newman Smith High School students will graduate in four years with college credit. They will be ready for admission to competitive post-secondary degree programs without remediation. Also, the Newman Smith Faculty does more than teach. The Smith Faculty inform, challenge, and prepares learners to compete in the 21st Century Economy! The Smith Faculty and Staff will equip students with critical reasoning, critical reading, writing and technology skills in order to develop the next generation of creative leaders! During the last decade, Newman Smith has distinguished itself as one of America's top secondary schools with one of the best fine/performing arts, AP, Gifted/Talented, Robotics, Science-Engineering Pathway, and Culinary Arts programs available to secondary students.
