For the 2013-2014 school year, students and staff at Newman Smith High School have committed to reading at least 21 books each! They are accomplishing this through SSR (Silent Sustained Reading), independent reading at home and always having a book within reach!
For nearly 40-years NewmanSmithHigh School has provided quality instruction to students in the Carrollton-FarmersBranchSchool District. Our campus vision is simple..."Learning and Achievement." All students will take a curriculum of rigor that includes Advanced Placement and Dual Credit courses. Additionally, learners will excel on state standardized tests, meet standards (3 or above) on AP examinations, score above national norms on SAT/ACT and PSAT. Newman Smith High School students will graduate in four years with college credit. They will be ready for admission to competitive post-secondary degree programs without remediation. Also, the Newman Smith Faculty does more than teach. The Smith Faculty inform, challenge, and prepares learners to compete in the 21st Century Economy! The Smith Faculty and Staff will equip students with critical reasoning, critical reading, writing and technology skills in order to develop the next generation of creative leaders! During the last decade, Newman Smith has distinguished itself as one of America's top secondary schools with one of the best fine/performing arts, AP, Gifted/Talented, Robotics, Science-Engineering Pathway, and Culinary Arts programs available to secondary students. Our International Business Academy is the best "school within a school' in the country in preparing students for careers in business, law, technology and medicine!
